The Annual "Beef Bowl"

October 17th

The fall season at the Lion’s Den begins with the annual “Beef Bowl”. This is our way of giving back to the community that supports us! This is a dinner we host for the local rival high school football teams, Waterford Mott and Waterford Kettering. The players, coaches, cheerleaders, dance teams, and administrators are treated to a prime rib and chicken dinner, free of charge, a few days before their big game. After dinner, there is a timed prime rib eating contest between selected players from each team. Each 2 man team needs to eat their 40 oz. piece of prime rib as quickly as possible to push their team to the fastest finish time to declare victory and be awarded the “Beef Bowl” trophy, which is engraved with the winning team name and finish time, every year. Then, of course, the cheerleaders pick the lucky girls from each of their teams that will face off in a cake eating contest! A full sheet cake is placed before the each team of 4 girls (and lots of water), and then it gets real messy! The cheerleading coaches have been known to pitch in and help their team to the finish line! The winning team is also awarded a winners trophy with their names and finish time engraved on it, and like the “Beef Bowl” trophy, can change hands, depending on the winners, from year to year. The “Beef Bowl” dinner itself is not open to the public, but we do welcome everyone to treat themselves to a great dinner inside the restaurant and then join the festivities outside under the BIG tent.

Dinner with Dracula

October 24th

The Lion’s Den has several other special events sprinkled throughout the year that are definitely worth putting on your calendar! In October, we take Halloween decorating to an extreme and we have “Dinner with Dracula”. Dracula, cape and all, cracks jokes and talks with the kids as he walks around the restaurant visiting each table. Mrs. Dracula takes pictures of the kids with Dracula, free of charge, and puts the pictures up in the foyer for parents to pick up a few days later. The pictures are definitely mementos for your scrapbook! This is a sell out event and reservations are a necessity as Dracula has a huge following that comes to see him every year. We suggest calling to reserve a table beginning October 1st.

Thanksgiving Dinner

November 23rd

For many years we had requests to open for Thanksgiving, so a couple of years ago we decided to do just that. The Lion’s Den is open on Thanksgiving day with a Thanksgiving menu that will please everyone in your family. Of course, we serve our wonderful turkey dinner with all the trimmings; slow roasted turkey, stuffing, real mashed potatoes and gravy and cranberry sauce, but we offer several other special entrée items for those looking for something different. Thanksgiving dinner should always be followed by delicious desserts, and pumpkin pie is at the top of our list followed by other holiday favorites. You decide whether to top them off with ice cream or whipped cream! Since Thanksgiving is the traditional beginning of the holiday season, we have all of our seasonal decorations displayed to get you into the mood. So plan to join us on Thanksgiving. You enjoy the food, your family and friends, and we’ll do the cooking and cleaning up! We strongly suggest reservations, especially for large parties, as this is a very busy day.

Dinner with Santa

December 12th

During December we have the honor of hosting “Dinner with Santa”. Santa visits the Lion’s Den to see the children, hear their Christmas wishes, and take their Christmas lists. Santa will sit with each child and have pictures taken, free of charge. The pictures are displayed in the foyer a few days later to be picked up by family members for a keepsake. To add to the festive feeling, we have a great chorale group of ladies that walk through the restaurant singing all your holiday favorites. This is a truly special evening to spend with your family. “Dinner with Santa” is a hot date, and reservations fill quickly. Reservations can be made during the months of November and December until we are fully booked. (This is always a sell out.)

Island Escape

After all the holidays are over and the decorations come down, we start to get cabin fever. So…we decorate again, this time with a tropical theme to rival any island resort. We call it our “Island Escape”. In March, right after St. Patrick’s Day, we transform the Lion’s Den into a tropical get away. Our weekend specials feature tropical cuisine and delicious drink specials. Our staff is dressed in tropical attire, and our regular customers often show up in their Hawaiian shirts or blouses. It definitely helps to raise our spirits while we wait patiently for Spring!

Don't Forget

Of course we are always here for those other special occasions, New Years Eve, Valentines Day, Mothers Day, Fathers Day, and Sweetest Day. We offer a specially created menu on each of these occasions, but our regular menu is also available. We take reservations for all of these days, starting at least a month ahead of time. Walk-ins are always welcome on any day or occasion, but understandably, you may encounter a wait. The hostess can inform you of the approximate time of the wait when you arrive or you can call and inquire about the wait time before you come in.
